Feathers as Embellishments

Isn't this a beautiful way to embellish a wedding or special gift? Cindy decorated these boxes and you can visit her at her blog, Quaint Handmade, to see lots of wonderful things she has decorated.

Cindy says: "I love to decorate, garden and make things. I started out with the intention of posting photos of only the things I made, but have added our home as it is forever evolving and our travels. Doing so has caused me work on my photography, which is something I really love to do. I'm still learning..."

Also check out my post on December 4th for embellishments for the hair by MarlaJDesigns.

Thanks to Cindy for letting folks know that she got her feathers from Renewed Resources.

Renewed Resources offers guinea and chicken feathers that have been gathered from our 3 acres where the fowl free range. The feathers are gently cleaned with borax and air dried.

We also recently opened a shop on Artfire, called Homespun Alley, and may eventually move all our items to Artfire since it only cost $7 a month with no other fees for listing or selling. It is a good time to join as the $7 a month for life will not last long. It is still in Beta but they have been very quick to help with any questions Ihave had.

Feathers Of All Colors!!

Feathers of all colors! I want to share pictures of my chickens and guineas which is where the feathers come from that I sell in my Etsy shop, Renewed Resources. We have 3 acres and over 20 chickens and 5 guineas.

The chickens and Guineas pretty much have free range over the whole 3 acres. When I got my first 4 chickens about 3 years ago their wings had been clipped and they stayed in my one acre yard fenced area close to the house.

Guess what? Their wings grew back! Now I have a variety of 20 chickens. Araucanas, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Bantams, Silkies, Ameracanca, and some I do not even know the name of! They pretty much stay within the fenced one acre area but occasionally one or two will fly over the fence and follow the Guinea birds.

Guinea birds are really a lot of fun to watch! They always hang together and eat all kinds of bugs, worms, mosquitoes, flies, and they will attack and run off snakes. I especially like that! The oldest male is the leader of flock. Right at dusk he will fly up into one our big oak trees and all the others follow and that is where they sleep at night. They are great 'watch dogs' because when an animal or person that is unfamiliar comes into our yard or near the house they squall to let us know there is an intruder!
My granddaughters and I collect the feathers from all over our acreage and then I clean them in warm water with borax and air dry them.

I take special orders if you want a certain number, size, or color or combination of colors. Please visit my Etsy shop for all your feather needs.

Welcome All!

I have a website, www.leescandles.com, also called www.homeremedysolutions.com (this domain is for sale), where I sell ear candles and accessories. I have handmade and sold ear candles for over 16 years. And I wrote a small book, “Happy Candling and Good Health!”, about ear candling, which includes a history, different types made and sold, and tips for proper usage.

I added Grandma Betty’s Body Butters about 8 years later. I make solid body butter, lip butter and Bug Away from shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin E and essential oil scents. My Bug Away has Eucalyptus and Rosemary plus all the other ingredients used in the body butters and will repel insects for up to 3 hours. Since the body butters are in solid form you can leave them out on an open dish next to your bed, TV, kitchen sink or bath and they will never dry out! You just rub the bar in your hands and the oils come to the surface, then rub the bar anywhere you have dry skin. These are luxurious oils and make your skin so very soft plus the coconut oil is a wonderful healer for the skin. I also have Grandma Betty’s listed on 2nd Avenue of Victorian Heart Shoppe, www.victorianheartshoppe.com/second.html.

In May 2008 I opened my supply shop on Etsy, called RenewedResources.etsy.com. I am into recycling, upcycling, vintage findings, fabric design, making tags etc. I collect feathers from my chickens and guineas and wash them with borax and air dry, then put them up for sell in my shop. I also collect bark and interesting flora from my 3 acres and heat in an oven to kill microbes than either leave natural or coat with a polycrylic and resell.
